Major Scale Shapes CAGED System
Putting it all
together
Think of these scale forms as different ways to play the same
notes. No matter which of the these G major patterns you are playing, there is
still only these seven different notes (G A B C D E and F#). The scale forms
are like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle. The top notes of one form are the bottom
notes of the next. Once you have gone through all 5 forms, you will just start
over again.
When you play these scale forms in different keys, you will need
to move the fret where the root is ( the note circled in red ) to the desired
root note. Of course in order to do this you will need to know the
names of the notes on the neck of the
guitar.
